Our in-clinic dermal clinician answers some frequently asked questions that we hear on a daily basis.

  • Q — What products from The Skincare Company can I use for my sensitive skin and rosacea?

A — We have designed our range to be irritant, fragrance and synthetic preservative free with sensitive skins in mind. For your morning routine, our Daily Cleanser is a gentle cream cleanser that will not strip the skin and disrupt the protective acid mantle that is very important for skin health. (If you get that tight squeaky clean feeling after washing, you’ve probably just stripped away your acid mantle which increases your chances of skin damage and infection). Moisturiser with Sunscreen contains vitamin B3 for strengthening the skin, and helps to reduce pigmentation. Liquorice root extract and sunflower seed oil – mimic the healing cascade in the skin, and help reduce inflammation.

Specialty Serums to use in the morning: Vitamin C – strengthens, and contains zinc for anti-inflammatory effects. Hyaluronic Acid Vitamin B5 Serum is soothing, calming and healing for sensitive and reactive skin. Specialist tip: Mix Vitamin C with our our lightweight, super hydrating Hyaluronic B5 to reduce pH irritation on skin. For foundation try our Mineral Sheer Tint, it evens skin tone with a sheer natural radiance, as it nourishes, moisturises and protects.
Night routine: After cleansing, apply deeply nourishing and fast absorbing hydration booster CoQ10 oil that is ideal for sensitive skins and is formulated using potent antioxidants, vitamins and the highest quality oils. Vitamin A Cream is fantastic for sensitive skin as it excels as an antioxidant assisting in skin renewal and building skin strength. Our luxurious Hydrating Moisturiser excels in providing essential nourishment and is enriched with Vitamins B3, B5, E, A to provide superior antioxidant protection and moisture barrier.

Specialist tip: Vitamin B3 Serum – use sparingly, avoid: AHA/BHA serum, AHA/BHA Facial Scrub, Facial Mousse Cleanser

  • Q — Are your products tested on animals?

A — Thanks for your interest in our products. We can assure you that we have never and never will test our products on animals.

  • Q — Are your products safe to use during pregnancy?

A — Our products are cosmeceutical grade are designed to treat skin conditions and maintain healthy skin.

During pregnancy, skin changes. Hormones change. As a result, the skin can become unpredictable. Our products are not specially developed for use in pregnancy and have not been tested as such. So our best advice is to steer clear of all forms of Vitamins A and salicylic acid whilst pregnant unless your physician advises otherwise.

Always consult your healthcare professional for an individual assessment during pregnancy.

  • Q — If I have oily skin, what are the best The Skincare Company products for me?

A — For oily/combination skins, we recommend our Facial Mousse Cleanser and Vitamin B3 Serum in the morning to help you control sebum/oil production and is perfect for applying under The Face Mineral Powder makeup. Our Moisturiser with Sunscreen is a paraben free, gel-based formulation that provides daily hydration with sun protection and won’t clog pores. Oiler skins can benefit from using our AHA/BHA Facial Scrub and AHA/BHA Exfoliant Serum which contain salicylic acid to open and unclog pores.

Use Exfoliant Serum and Vitamin A on alternate nights to reduce pore size and normalise oil levels in the skin. The Face Makeup is also suitable for oily skins. The Flawless Liquid Foundations and Colour Correcting creams in particular, as they are water-based and oil free. Mineral Powder Foundation won’t clog pores and is also oil absorbing, reducing shine throughout the day, and it can be used over your Flawless Liquid foundation or worn by itself.

  • Q — I’ve been using your products for a few months now and love them but I just wanted to clarify one thing… Am I able to use the Vit A serum followed by exfoliant serum on the same day (nightly routine?) OR do I need to alternate? I have been using them both daily (first applying vit a then exfoliate serum) my skin seems happy but just wondering if that is in fact wrong??

A — Thank you for question and for your support of our skincare range. We are so pleased you love it as much as we do! I would definitely suggest to use the exfoliant FIRST, followed by the vitamin A once the exfoliant is dry.

You can alternate them each night if you wish. This will ensure that you get longer out of you product purchase. Otherwise feel free to continue layering your products each night. They are certainly designed for this regimen.

  • Q — I have been thinking about buying your skincare for a while now and thought I better just take the plunge. In saying that, I would love for some assistance in picking the right products before purchasing. I am 34 years old, I am a little oily and have redness in the T zone of my face. I have quite a few milia spots around my eyes and only occasionally get pimples.

A — By the sounds of things your skin will benefit from a good routine with products to support your skin type.

Often what we come across in our clinic is a disrupted skin barrier, caused by the use of a cleanser that is doing more harm than good. Often Cleansers with detergents or fragrance will unsettle the skins PH barrier and open up for irritation of excess oil production. So more often than not, by swapping cleansers, we notice a great improvement in the quality of the skin.

For this very reason I would suggest the Daily Cleanser be one of your first purchases. This contains no fragrance or sodium laurel sulphate. Very gentle on the skin. Double cleanse when wearing make up.

In the AM I would consider the following serums:

    – Vitamin C – a fantastic antioxidant, to help skin healing, new collagen production, reduce pigmentation production and just a fantastic over all skin brightening serum.

    – HB5 serum – This contains Hyaluronic acid which is a molecule that draws moisture into the skin, helping to hydrate the deeper layers of the epidermis. This also contains B5, a soothing and calming B vitamin, great for sensitive skin.

In the AM you would layer these to serums, applying 1 pump of Vitamin C, followed by 1 pump of the HB5 serum. Follow these up with our Moisturiser with Sunscreen.

In the PM, I would first look at the Exfoliant serum. This serum contains both AHA’s and BHA’s to help gently exfoliate the skin and break down build up in the pores. Apply 1 pump of this serum to clean skin and leave on over night for the slow release formulation to work gently on the skin. Hope that helps.

  • Q — If I have dry skin, what are the best The Skincare Company products for me?

A — All of our products are suitable for you! But in particular our Daily Cleanser, our bestselling Vitamin C and Hyaluronic B5 serums, and COQ10 Hydration Booster for face and top-to-toe body oil. Layer your Vitamin C and Hyaluronic B5 serums in the morning. Use your hydration booster CoQ10 underneath your Hydrating Moisturiser at night.

Dry skins can also benefit from using our Exfoliant Serum and Vitamin A Serums a few times a week. Begin with 1-2 a week and build up to using on on alternate nights. Try our Facial Scrub to loosen and remove the dead epidermal skin cells. This leaves newly revealed cells to be treated by the special antioxidant and soothing properties resulting in a smooth and refreshed appearance. For foundation stick with liquid foundations such as Flawless Liquid Foundation and Mineral Sheer tint which are enriched with vitamins and antioxidants and will provide nourishment and hydration.

  • Q — I have mature skin, what are the best anti-aging The Skincare Company products for me?

A — We focus on formulas that provide broad antioxidant protection required for antiaging providing essential nourishment and exfoliation required by mature skin. Use your Derma Roller 2-3 times a week in the mornings and layer your Vitamin C and Hyaluronic B5 serums right after. Use your hydration booster CoQ10 underneath your Hydrating Moisturiser at night, and use your Exfoliating Serum and Vitamin A Serums on alternate nights. Eye Treatment is excellent for protecting the delicate eye area and reducing dark circles.

Our Flawless Liquid Foundation and Mineral Sheer Tint paired with Retexturising Face Primer will fill in fine lines, and make the skin appear smoother. They also give added anti-aging protection as they are infused with nourishing and brightening ingredients and also contain SPF. However, makeup with SPF should never take place of a sunscreen moisturiser.

  • Q — I have been wanting to start using your skincare products but I am unsure what to start off with.. my skin is normal although my face gets dry from time to time, i would like a good moisturiser with sunscreen that I can wear every day as well a night cream or something similar to put on in the evening .. And, I would like to know who stocks your products in Melbourne ? I live in the northern suburbs..

A — We would suggest starting with our “Moisturiser with sunscreen” for everyday use and our “Hydrating moisturiser” for nightime. You will find the daytime moisturiser to be light, fortified with antioxidants and very easy to apply.

Our night time hydrating moisturiser is nourishing, hydrating and is also filled with anti-aging ingredients to regenerate your skin at night. Our Melbourne stockists are listed on our website. I’m sure our stockists would love to hear from you and offer you a complimentary skincare consultation.

  • Q — I have been using your Vitamin C serum and love it! What else would you recommend to improve the condition of skin for a natural glow?

A — Thanks for using our Vitamin C. You should definitely try our HB5 serum to be applied straight after the Vitamin C as part of your morning regimen. These two products work beautifully together. Our hero product is the Exfoliant serum and should be used at night to gently exfoliate dead skin cells.

  • Q — I have pigmented skin, what are the best The Skincare Company products for me?

A — Treating pigmentation requires vigilant use of our Dry Touch SPF50 broad spectrum sunscreen daily. We also recommend clients use our Daily Cleanser and Moisturiser with Sunscreen. In the morning we recommend daily use of our Vitamin C and Vitamin B3 serums which are the superstars for your skin brightening routine as they are essential cofactors for enzymes that inhibit the steps of pigment production in the epidermis.

In the evening we recommend using our Exfoliant serum to promote cell renewal which reduces skin discolorations including unwanted pigmentation. To boost the reduction in pigmentation deposits we also recommend you visit our stockist partners for a chemical peel treatments to assist lightening. To prevent further pigmentation from occurring we also recommend wearing a wide-brimmed hat for limit unwanted sun exposure!

  • Q — I’d really like to try your products but don’t know where to start. I’m a 41 year old woman. I have large pores and uneven skin tone due to pregnancy and sun damage. I still get the occasional breakout which heals well but leaves a pigmented blemish which takes months to heal. I’d say my skin type is normal (not dry, not oily). I would like to even out my skin tone and texture – some people say my skin looks “rough. Would really appreciate some professional advice and guidance.

A — Thank you for your inquiry and interest in our products.

Our suggested morning routine for your skin type would be as follows.

    —–AM——
    Daily Cleanser
    Vitamin C (followed by)
    HB5.

By incorporating our Daily Cleanser you are giving your skin a good clean without using stringent detergents as our cleanser is free from Sodium Lauryl Sulfate (SLS) and is also free from fragrance and preservatives.

Our Vitamin C will give your skin the anti-oxidant activity it requires to fight free radical damage and Vit C will also help lighten and brighten your skin. (Not to be used on sensitive areas such as around the nose and on eyelids)
HB5 will hydrate, calm redness and sooth your skin without blocking pores.

You can apply a moisturiser over the top of these serums once they are dry on your skin.

Pore size will reduce with the constant use of BHA (salicylic acid) and the use of vitamin A. Vit A will also help to even out the rough texture of the skin.
So, for your night time routine along with the Daily Cleanser, I would recommend these two products used alternate nights –

    ——PM—–
    Daily Cleanser
    Exfoliant serum
    Vitamin A cream

NB. Vitamin A not recommended in pregnancy.

  • Q — If I have acne prone skin, what are the best The Skincare Company products for me?

A — You can use either of our cleansers: Foaming Mousse Cleanser, papaya fruit enzymes in this cleanser gently exfoliate skin, and remove excess sebum. Lactic and salicylic acids in the Daily Cleanser will gently exfoliate and provide extra moisture with Vitamin B3 controlling sebum production , B5 soothes, calms and heals the skin. Moisturiser With Sunscreen is gel based, oil and paraben free and won’t clog pores. Vitamin C and Hyaluronic B5 serums aid in calming and healing and help with post inflammatory pigmentation.

Alternate Exfoliant Serum and Vitamin A Cream at night for decongesting and accelerated cell renewal. For foundation you could try our mattifying and non-pore clogging Mineral Powder Foundation or Flawless Liquid Foundation and Colour Correcting Cream as they are waterbased, light-weight and oil-free.

  • Q — I would like to know which treatment pack would be suitable for broken capillaries. I am 62 with very slight pigmentation.

A — If broken capillaries are a concern and slight pigmentation is evident I would recommend a combination of clinical peels, laser treatments in conjunction with skincare. Broken capillaries can be tricky as they tend to flare up with the use of vitamin A. Our Hb5 on the other hand will definitely help calm the redness seen in broken capillaries and will not be in any way harmful, so this product would be a good choice for you. Vitamin C generally helps lighten and brighten pigment, but again, as our products are very active, in sensitive skin types, redness can increase/flare up with the use of L-ascorbic acid (vitamin C) so I wouldn’t recommend this.

Our Active cleanser has lactic (AHA) and salicylic (BHA) acid in it to help exfoliate, unclog pores and clean skin thoroughly. This too can irritate broken capillaries if they are sensitive to AHA’s and BHA’s. I think it may be best if you treat the redness with a laser and avoid active products until such time. My advice is to purchase one product at a time and ease your way into the range starting with HB5, 50+ sunscreen and Daily Cleanser.

  • Q — I am wondering how many times I should use your Exfoliant serum per week ?

A — You should alternate using our Exfoliant serum and our Vitamin A night cream every second night. That is, use our Exfoliant serum one night, then use Vitamin A the next night. That is the ideal night time routine to help regenerate skin cells.

  • Q — I have difficult skin, it easily dries out with any “acne” products however breaks out whenever I use “hydrating” products. I’ve heard great reviews on this brand, would you have any suggestions as to which items would be beneficial for someone with skin like mine?

A — I would recommend using the Vitamin C and HB5 serum (in that order) in the mornings and the exfoliant serum at night to gently shed your dead skin cells until your skin rejuvenates itself. We have had excellent results with these three products and you should see results almost immediately but it is very important to start a morning and night routine and stick to it like a religion.

  • Q — Will the Retexturising Face Primer help my foundation last longer?

A — Our Retexturising Face Primer is a must have as it preps your skin for your favourite tinted moisturiser or foundation, by providing a fault free base and something to hold onto so it lasts throughout the day. Our primer provides a silky finish for the foundation to glide over upon application.

  • Q — Which foundations from The Face makeup range are suitable for oily skin?

A — Our Flawless Liquid Foundations and Colour Correcting Creams are lightweight, water-based, non-comedogenic and oil-free and suitable for oiler skins.

  • Q — Does your makeup have spf ?

A — Our Retexturising Face Primer, Colour Correcting Cream and Mineral Tinted Coverage all provide SPF20 protection.

  • Q — Is Flawless Liquid Foundation matte or dewy?

A — Flawless Liquid Foundation is an irresistibly comfortable, lightweight, dewy formulations that melts into the skin, giving a fresh, undetectable coverage with a radiant finish. For a flawless finish, this product is best applied with our liquid foundation brush.

  • Q — Which of The Face products are mineral?

A — Our Mineral Powder Foundation and Mineral Tinted Coverage are enriched with mineral complexes. They help condition and protect skin and deliver a subtle, sophisticated luminosity. Suitable for all skin types.

  • Q — What are the foundation coverage options?

A — Our Colour Correcting Cream is light coverage, creating mattifying, brightening and natural coverage. Apply daily over moisturiser or by itself, as needed. Wear alone or under foundation. Best for no-makeup looks.
Mineral Sheer Tint is medium coverage providing a sheer natural radiance, as it nourishes, moisturises and protects. May be worn alone or under foundation.
Flawless Liquid Foundation is full coverage. Light-textured and radiant, Flawless Liquid Foundation imparts a flawless, lit-from-within glow to skin. Add Dual Action Concealer for even more full coverage with Mineral Powder Foundation on top.
Mineral Powder Foundation provides buildable coverage – from natural sheer to polished opaque. Minerals condition skin and add a subtle luminosity.

  • Q — I am interested in using some products but not sure where to start! I have generally oily skin and large pores and some scarring

A — We would recommend starting with our Daily Cleanser to use AM and PM. To address oiliness I recommend Vitamin B3 as it regulates sebum production and will assist in healing. To help with large pores and scarring, the Exfoliant Serum and Vitamin A are your must-haves. The Exfoliant Serum will refine your skin, sloughing off the dead layers and epidermal pigmentation post acne. Vitamin A will work to shrink pores and regenerate skin. We recommend introducing the serums one by one if you have never used cosmeceutical skincare before, as they are high strength and your skin needs to adjust to them slowly.
