Your Spring Skincare Sorted!

September 1st marks the start of spring, evoking hopes of warmer weather, sun and the great Aussie outdoors. A time to celebrate the abundance of fragrant blooms, greener foliage and the return of lingering outdoor lunch dates, walking on our beautiful beaches and breathing in fresh air.

It is also a time of spring cleaning our homes and gardens whilst pairing back our winter wardrobes and removing the heavy layers needed in the colder months. We are also quite literally shedding our skin’s build-up of flat, dull, dry skin cells ready to be renewed.

Any change of season requires a review of our skincare regime to determine what is still needed and what should to be swapped out for more suitable textures and ingredients, to suit the needs of our skin in the changed environment.

Spring is the perfect time to “lighten” the layers of skincare products and simplify your routine focussing on renewed cellular turnover, sun protection and inhibiting melanin production in readiness for the summer sun. Our skin requires lighter weighted hydrators as the humidity is starting to increase, and more regular exfoliation to shed our sluggish winter skin and support the absorption of antioxidant, hydrating actives such as Hyaluronic Acid, Salicylic and Lactic Acid and Vitamins B3 and Vitamin C.

As we transition to our springtime routine, we encourage swapping out your heavy moisturisers such as Hydrating Moisturiser for our lighter Hydration Booster Serum, as well as our gel-based Moisturiser with SPF. The ingredients incorporated into these formulations promote water retention to plump the skins appearance. Less heating and more humidity means raised water molecules in the atmosphere and fewer drying environmental aggressors. We tend to be more active, enjoy increased outdoor exercise, drink more water and are starting to eat lighter foods that are higher in their water content, increasing our internal and external hydration levels.

We focus on renewing and revealing in every context. Think regular use of skin sloughing products such as Exfoliant Serum and Vitamin A, to reduce dead cell build up to reveal smooth, refined skin with an even texture and tone. Brightening antioxidants such as Vitamin C serum reduce sallow tone and encourage clarity and brightness of our complexion and actives formulated to inhibit melanin production to prevent pigmentation such as Vitamin C, Niacinamide (B3) and Vitamin A.

Increased use of broad-spectrum sunscreens like our Daily Defence and Dry Touch 50+ help protect and shield the skin and our spring-time routines have begun.

Hyaluronic B5 Serum –  A soothing, calming, hydrating gel serum will leave the skin glowing and smooth, improving hydration levels and supports healing with the use of Hyaluronic Acid, B5 Pantothenic Acid and Niacinamide to calm.

Vitamin A Serum – Apply two pumps every second night, alternating with the Exfoliant Serum, to provide healthy regulated cellular turnover, harnessing the benefits of Retinol and Retinyl Palmitate to smooth texture and promote healthy skin functioning. With the added benefits of Curcumin to brighten and calm the skin, as well as Hyaluronic Acid to plump. Resveratrol will provide protection against oxidative stress and photo ageing.

Body Lustre – Apply this lush body cream in the PM post bath or shower to wake to a perfectly hydrated and smoothed skin. Allow the Lactic Acid to exfoliate and remove dry, rough skin whilst you sleep, and Niacinamide to strengthen and promote healthy cellular renewal resulting in a hydrated plump skin.

Weekly Treat – Once per week post cleanse, apply our Facial Scrub like a mask in a thin layer and allow the AHA/BHA to restore the skins surface, then add warm water to gently massage in refined bamboo granules to reveal deeply cleansed, smooth skin.

Follow with The Skincare Company’s Dual Peptide Sheet Mask. Leave on for 20 minutes then massage in the remainder of the serum provided to illuminate, hydrate and deeply restore the skin.

This bespoke mask formulation has a unique cocktail of peptides such as Tripeptide-29 and Argireline Peptide, which promote ceramide activity and builds collagen all whilst B3,B5 and Zinc act as strengthening and hydrating agents. Mangosteen Extract works to thicken the epidermis and helps to brighten the skin. Use as a standalone anti-ageing mask or as the perfect skin prep pre-makeup application, this biodegradable bamboo sheet mask provides much more than a regular mask treatment and the benefits will continue for days.

P.S. For all the hay fever sufferers out there, springtime often means antihistamines are required. It’s really important if you are taking antihistamines to double up your water consumption and wear sufficient SPF protection.

Antihistamines don’t just have an action on suppressing hay fever, they also suppress histamine responses in the skin and as such send signals to the cells to slow down in the absorption of external products and the release of internal, natural moisturising factors and sebum production. This will result in a dehydrated skin especially around the eye area, so don’t forget the Eye Treatment application to hydrate and soothe morning and night and SPF to protect and seal in skincare benefits. And if required, add a drop of Hydration Booster to your moisturiser to compensate and restore the hydration levels within the skin.
